Bottolanda okka is nested in the beautiful naalnaad with magnificent surroundings among the hills and valleys of Keeyalkeri of Peroor village.
They are known for their family-oriented nature and the family is known for people who are very courageous, fearless, valiant and strong willed. Among them, are the two famous warriors- Bottolanda Manicha Beera and Madaiah Beera
During the reign of Kodagu raja, there was a war against Karnembavu, a nayak of Thavi /naad, Manicha Beera single handedly killed hundreds of soldiers’ of Karnembavu with his odikathi. But fate had an unfortunate end for his life as he was killed by deceit and conspiracy in the war field.
And that’s how the story of warriors in the Bottolanda okka started.
Evidence of Maanicha are documented in various sources and one among the recent publication “Kodaginodeyaru Kodavaru” Page no 50. Manicha’s story is also narrated in kodava folk song as a man with supreme power and war field expertise, being the head of war force. One day when Manicha was coming to meet his family, at the same time , a group of Karnembavu soldiers were moving towards Bhagamandala. The news was intimated by his king with a note. On the third day Manicha left home, promising to return. On the way he stopped near Kuyyamudi river to wash his hands for his meal which had been packed by his sister in-law. but a Sixth sense warned him about the quality of the food, so he threw the food to the river. He reached Bhagamandala and found the soldiers there, with Odikathi as his only weapon, he fearlessly and mercilessly attacked them. Unable to face the ferocity of his attack, a few cowardly soldiers withdrew from the scene. Hiding in the Annachira paddy field, they ambushed him, cut his body in the fields. On receiving this ghastly news, the family and villagers and reached the spot and cremated him near Banneymottey.
was equally qualified as his uncle Maanicha Beera in various expertise in war and Tantric ritual, he too was also assassinated in Nettumadu village near Yevakapadi and his body was cremated near his uncle Manicha Beera. Bottolanda family and villagers made a small monument as a mark of remembrance for these two and they perform kola (rituals) once in year for the departed ancestors to attain eternal peace.
Biddanna from Kiealkeri resided near Peroor Temple in a place called Uruguppe which is even today known as Bottolanda Todiya. From there, Biddanna moved to the foothill of Igguthappa temple and led his life dedicated to seva of Igguthappa. As many of the Bottolanda families reside near Igguthappa temple and are a part of temple administration work, they are also identified as thirikey Bottolanda .years passed and family expanded our elder family member Muthaiah moved towards Ballamavati having 2 sons one settled on Koppa and other in Boliabbey which is also documented as Koiyapanda Verga in Jamma. This family of Koppa and Boliabbey take active part in Aiyappa and Boteykara deva prayers and rituals. Women of this family perform ritual visiting Devara kaadu early in the morning before sunrise and prepare sacred food in the forest offering to God. The prasadam is distributed to all the villagers and this marks the start of Aiyyappa Tere and continues till late night.
As Bottolanda family members reside in both Peroor and Ballamavati, equal importance is given to Ballamavati Bhagavathi temple and Peroor Igguthappa temple. And both the resident families perform Guru Karona Meedhi every year.
From the base root of Peroor land, the families of Deviaiah and Pooviah move towards Kolakeri village and settled near Bhagavathi temple and built Ainmaney behind the Bhagavathi Temple, which was later moved to the ainmane which is presently situated.
Kiealkeri has a high population of Bottolanda family followed by Peroor, Ballamavati, Palangott, Yemamadu, Bommangi, Appangala, Kirundhadu, Madikeri, Gargandoor, Bettadapura, Mysore, Bangalore, Mangalore few places in India and abroad.
They have made their contribution toward Defense private sector like IT , Engineering Management sports and base root Agriculturists and earned accolades in their areas.
